Is there a way to move a path along with a view?

Hi,

I'm working on a project which uses a view, which moves from the bottom of the room to the top.

It needs to have an object follow a path, left to right across the view. The path is working, however because the view is moving up, it causes the object to appear to shift downwards, instead of staying at the view's vertical position.

I've tried moving the object itself up every frame (both with 'jump to position' and 'set vertical speed'), which has no effect. Not sure what else to try.

Is there any way to move the path with the view? I'm using GM Pro.

Thanks,
Simon.

Hey, ma names Ryan and i am a student. I am working on a course at the moment and i need to create a game. The problem i am having is that after deciding to create a missile defence game, the turret doesn't work correctly.

I followed this tutorial, because it is 99% similar to what i want.http://gamemaker.wikicomplete.info/helprequest:how-do-you-make-the-mouse-act-as-point. I want to be able to have a turret that follows the mouse in a 90 degree angle and stop past that, after following this tutorial, it works however, if i go past 90 degrees its flicks back to the original frame.

Sorry if it isn't explained very well but i quite literally started game making about 2/4 weeks ago :P

Thanks. Ryan.

Hi, I'm chaosstar, a newbie at this. For my first game I'm making a simple one. In it you play as an orange ghost named "Spook" who goes around scaring people in a graveyard. You use different techniques to scare them and the goal is to see how many people you can scare in one night (aka within the time limit) and see if you can get the high score.
I will post a demo when I get more done, but for now that is all I can tell you.
Eventually, when I gain more skill, I will make a series out of the character, with a story mode and cutscenes, with a kind of spooky/humerous/gothic feel to it.

P.S. Any suggestions for the game, such as techniques and advice on how to do something, as well as opinions will be appreciated.

I've already put in a help request for this, but I figure if I post it here, I could get more help.
So I'm making a top down game in the vein of GTA 1 and 2. What I'm trying to do is use the mouse as the crosshair and have the player object point at the mouse. I've tried using the image_angle = point_direction (x1, y1, mouse_x, mouse_y) function, but the object doesn't turn right. It turns just a little bit and then stops at a certain point. I also need the object to move using the WASD keys, but every time I put in any sort of function that has to do with it moving, it automatically moves northwest (which is also the direction it is pointing when the room begins) on the screen until it hits an object. I just need help figuring this out, any help would be greatly appreciated. This is for a project in school and it's due on Monday. Thanks in advance. =)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have the Pro edition Game Maker.

EDIT by NicAdi

Please do NOT double-post; as a member, you do have the option to edit your posts…

Hello I am Dazzle. I went to a Video game prgramming course over the last 4 summers. Every year i get a free year trial of the program called "FunEditor". My trial just ran out and i am looking for a new program to use to make this game. I am planning to make an Sidescrolling RPG that will include gaining new skills, leveling up, and special effects, cut scenes and much, much more.

The game starts when you first load the game up. All you see is a black screen with two options. Option 1:New Game. Option 2:Load. I wish there to be 2 or three save files so that i can have my friends play their seperate files when they go on my computer. Once you click(sound effect) on New game you go to a new black screen where you take a quick personality test with an odd number of questions. Questions will be: Are you female or male?, Do you consider yourself a hero or a villain ect. The reason you do this personality test is to choose which main character you will be using as there are 4. I was thinking that every time you chose a certain answer to a question that it adds a variable to each character. the character with the highest variable by the end of the questions is chosen to be played as the main character (aka the playable character. Do not call me crazy for doing this but i am making this game from 4 different point of views. You have chosen the character you wish to play it brings you to a character specific Title. screen where you are able to begin the game.

To be plain and simple I wish to know how
a. to make that menu/ personality test
b. to make cut scenes
c. to make selectable menu items
d. my idea is
e. I should go about making a battle system. Should i go with a live action battle system. or go with a adventure sidcrollling shooter sort of like the game "Cave Story"

Im sorry for asking so many questions, but youtube isnt quite helping me much.
Im wondering how to make a main charcter use a melee attack, shootinga gun or somthing is simple but i cant quite figure this one out.
My sprite set is a custom yoshi, and he has two attacks, shooting eggs, and smashing peoples skulls (or shells in mario games case) in. The eggs= easy to make. The hammer, not so much. I would have had it, but i used codes for my movement instead of variables and stuff ( this is where i got my movement codes and stuff http://gamemaker.wikicomplete.info/tutorial:how-to-make-an-animated-platformer )
And to finish using the melee, you need to put certain variables in the same spot where you put your movment, and i used codes for it! Please help me.
(in case you didnt understand, here it goes quickly. I need to be able to make my character use his hammer as a melee attack to take out enemies)

I am about to ask a few questions about enemies specifically for boss battles, so get ready cause here it comes :P

First off, is there a way for me to make an enemy freeze in mid play for a set amount of time? Example: One of my bosses is a giant bullet bill that chases to main character until he dies, i want it so then after apporximately 20 seconds, he switched sprites, and stops moving for lets say 3 seconds, and thats when you can hit him to do damamge.
Second, how can i make it so after about half my enemies health it switches its move set completely. Example: An enemy runs to different spots around the room and shoots at the charcter, then moves again, but say after 5 hits agaisnt him, he starts jumping around trying to crush the character.
And last (for now *evil laughter*) how can i make it so certain spots on an enemy are immuned to damage? Example: An enemy could be a knight, with certain spots with skin showing, when you shoot the armour, nothing happens, but if you hit the skn, he gets damage.

hello gamers,
Second post, second problem:

Multiple instances of O_Target have to fire a constant stream of detection pebbles at 1-6 different objects if within range 200px (cpu will hate me)
Upon collision variable alert is set to 1 for O_Target and hell breaks loose for all instances of O_Target
System works, except for one little detail, when multiple instances of O_Target exist the targetting of detection pebbles fails.
(This is to prevent things from fireing at blank walls, and across levels, or random targets. as many instances of O_Target need to exist I can't use them like the individual squadmembers, of which only 6 will exist)

Heres the code for one object (Squadmate Paul) used in a step event of O_Target

paul=instance_nearest(x,y,O_Squadmate_Paul); //Set variable "Paul"
if point_distance(x,y,paul.x,paul.y)<200 //Set range to 200PX
{
instance_create(x,y,CTRL_Targetcontrol); //Create instance of detection pebble
CTRL_Targetcontrol.speed =10;
CTRL_Targetcontrol.direction = point_direction(x,y,O_Squadmate_Paul.x,O_Squadmate_Paul.y); //Set speed and direction
}

When paul is in range 150 of the target, he proceeds to fire: No more pebbles are created for either object (Not a big problem, it's one shot- one kill, and enemies have a bigger range)
And most importantly:
O_Target aims in about the same direction all the time (left-down-ish),but changes a little if Paul moves
Collision doesn't occur most of the time, so no kickin' firefight.

Any ideas why this might happen / suggestions to fix?
Thanks!

edit:

It seems to be that it uses the center of all O_Targets as a reference point for x and y for the object.

Any idea how to make this work? or am I stuck with this?

I need the experience in programming so that I can become a designer for console games, my dream job.

Any suggestions for a simple game I can start with
